CEDF provides community language classes to children and young people. Its activities include raising awareness of the Panjabi culture and heritage, family learning and homework clubs from its learning centre in Hockley. In 2016 this charity replaced Starehe UK (1035323), a charitable trust formed in 1994. It supports Starehe Boys' Centre & School (founded 1959) and Starehe Girls' School (founded 2005), which provide free secondary education for promising but poor children from all over Kenya, and emphasise the importance of service and leadership. Freedom to Learn provides the opportunity of education to children from some of the remotest and poorest regions of the Himalayas working with non-profit organisations in India and Nepal with similar goals and ethos. FtL also partners with UK schools with their Sister Schools programme generating global friendships and partnership learning projects based within the UN SDG guidelines and framework.
