The Society facilitates the exchange of information and ideas by holding meetings and publishing periodicals and books.Members participate in National and International Conferences to advance cartographic education and encourage research.A number of awards are made each year to reward excellence in the field of cartography.

Normally we support local Charitable Organisations in the South West of the UK including Quaker, Heritage, Relief and Educational Establishments for Post Graduate education. (Applications are no longer accepted direct from individuals for general financial hardship or educational purposes.)

The Society supports and promotes the study of bryology by organising field meetings and training workshops, by publishing a journal, bulletin, and occasional publications - including a Field Guide and a Bryophyte Atlas for Britain and Ireland, highly regarded by amateurs and professionals alike. Other facilities include an informative web site to assist both experienced and new bryologists.

To advance the Christian faith by holding meetings in prisons, schools, colleges and churches.Charity members use powerlifting demonstrations as a backdrop to presenting how their faith in Jesus Christ has resulted in their turning their backs on lives of crime, violence and drug abuse.New Testaments, books and DVDs are distributed at all meetings.

For the benefit of the public to relieve the suffering of dogs in need of care and attention and in particular to provide dog wheelchairs, strollers and other accessories to people who cannot afford to purchase these items for the care, treatment and rehabilitation of their dogs suffering injury or illness throughout the United Kingdom.

The MWF was founded in 1917 and works to support the professional and personal development of women in all branches of medicine.
