Arun East U3A is part of the great network of self help groups which form the U3A and promote life-long learning and leisure activities for older people no longer in full time employment.

Assist clients with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and/or Learning Disabilities acquire life skills that will help them progress to Employment or Further Education and to provide support in the workplace for those clients in employment who require such support.

The following ongoing activities: Prayer session for the local Muslim Community daily five times; Elderly and pensioner club; Job club for local unemployed people i.e. CV writing, interview skills & the job search. Sports and recreational activities for Young people indoor and outdoor games; Homework tuition and religious education classes, community cohesion, and diversity & inclusion project.

We work to relieve economic deprivation and social isolation of the Bangladeshi and other ethnic minority community, particularly the elderly, the unemployed and the younger generation through educational & skills development projects. We organise weekly drop-in sessions for the elderly including keep-fit classes, welfare & healthy living advice. We promote cultural heritage & community cohesion.

Activities include weekly worship and a monthly mass. Services are carried out in the Amharic medium with detailed translations in English available on screens so that all can follow. We help new migrant members of our community with issues around integration, employment and access to health care.
