Allotments - cultivation of vegetables and flowers

A Management Organisation, whose aims are to pursue allotment gardening as a recreation, to promote health, education and community fellowship, meet the allotment and leisure gardening needs of its members and local communities, widen participation and community engagement.

We are a community Garden near to the centre of Chesterfield, where our volunteers meet, grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy the outdoor life in a sustainable way. Our plot was an acre of wasteland which we are bringing back into cultivation as we continue our activities.

We meet, as a full group once a month. The venue is at Cynon Linc in Aberdare. We hold a business meeting, followed by a speaker. At various times in a month we hold groups in poetry, reading, walking, gardening, music and travel trips.

Organises and runs a summer flower show for the village.

The Friends of Gladstone Park organise activities to encourage interest in and use of the park such as expert-led walks and group activities. Additionally, there is a weekly gardening group whereby volunteers help to maintain the park, in particular the walled garden.

We aim to raise funds through events such as family bingo nights, BBQ's and summer fairs. The funds raised are used to provde the children of Little Sutton C of E Primary School with additional items that would not normally be provided, such as outdoor classrooms, electronic whiteboards and gardening equipment for the gardening club.

WE MAINTAIN GREEN OPEN SPACE IN AN URBAN AREA PROMOTING HORTICULTURAL EDUCATION AND VOLUNTEERING.

We raise funds for staff/student 'extras' at the school, support home/school communication and contribute to the Sewell Park community.At present we focus on working with the Papillon Project to encourage students with gardening, and redeveloping links between the school and the Sewell Barn Theatre.

Money donated to school in the past to buy gardening and playground equipment, lunchbox trolleys, curtains etc and money provided to pay for a magic show for the children, materials for the Woolly Wonders club, vests for the running club and benches for the playground.
