Arts Charities That specialise in Literature

Small idependent local charity, raising money for local cancer care. Fundraising activities include dinner dances, barn dance, quiz night, bridge evening and cake/book stalls at numerous fetes. Money raised is used to buy/contribute towards items for use in cancer care at local hospitals and hospices.

Promoting interest in Devon's history and heritage by conferences, symposia and the publication of a journal. The society also encourages and offers support to those carrying out research into Devon's history.

The Friends of Wash Common Library was set up in 2017 as a response to the threatened closure of the library by West Berkshire Council. After a campaign lasting nearly two years the Friends, with support from Newbury Town Council, re-opened the library as a Community library. FoWCL fund and manage the library, it Is completely independent of WBLS and is run entirely by volunteers.

District Membership of U3A (Kenton Branch) supplying adult education to the retired. This includes forming interest groups who study languages, literature, art, family history and other special interests run by its members and lectures from invited speakers.It also runs recreational activities e.g Current Affairs, Cookery, Theatre Visits.

Some of the activities of EVAGLO Charity include organising strengthening family and strengthening community programmes (day family trip, summer family picnic, community dinner, family and community fun day), publishing and distributing free family magazines and subsidised books on family, food bank, free pre-marital and post-marital counselling services, poverty alleviation programmes etc.

Medway Culture Club deliver supplementary education & activities which celebrate diversity in areas such as: the arts & culture, literature, history, careers & current affairs. TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF PUPILS IN THE SCHOOLFUNDS THIS YEAR WERE RAISED BY A NUMBER OF EVENTS INCLUDING SUMMER FAYRES, CAKE SALES, SPRING CRAFTS, FOOTBALL TOURNAMNET AND QUIZ NIGHT. MONEY HAS BEEN SPENT ON IT EQUIPMENT, SPORTS EQUIPMENT, LEAVERS BOOK, RESIDENTIAL TRIPS AND PANTOMIME TRIPS AS WELL AS A FEW SMALLER PROJECTS FOR THE SCHOOL AND LOCAL COMMUNITY.

We promote the study and conservation of carnivorous plants by publishing a newsletter/journal and cultivation guidance, operating a website, maintaining an extensive seedbank, participating in shows and events, and funding conservation and research projects.

The Trust makes small grants to individuals in the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool who are attending second chance learning through Further Education establishments, including ESOL programmes. Grants are for the books or equipment the individual needs for their educational courses or training programmes.

WE RAISE MONEY BY HOLDING EVENTS TO HELP PROVIDE RESOURCES TO THE SCHOOL. I.E. SWIMMING POOL, BOOKS, TRIPS ETC.

In the early 60s the original wooden hut that was Nicholforest Village Hall burned down. Money was raised for the new hall from Whist drives, dances etc. In '64 a new hall was built. In '96 with the help of a lottery grant the hall was transformed. Regular groups and societies now meet at the hall. The hall holds regular events throughout the year and it also has a Resource Centre and Library.
