The Sorby Natural History Society is the Natural History society for the Sheffield City region, providing education, research and publications, including biological and geological recording of wildlife, habitats, rocks and landscapes. Operates mostly in Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and the Peak District.

Fostering and promoting research, education and communication in the scientific understanding of seeds by: Publication of scientific research on seed biology in Seed Science Research, the official journal of the ISSS. The Association organises fundraising events in order to support Alexandra Park School by donating funds for school trips, books, clubs and equipment.

Provides newspaper archives for research etc, other local archives, companies, industrial info, photographs (35000) and approx 1000 maps. We sell our own local history books (produced in house) to raise funds to operate, provide schools with local history information in classes. We provide a free entry reading room for visitors and other local groups.

We produce books and other educational materials based on teachings and texts by bona-fide teachers of Yungdrung Bon. We facilitate practical seminars and retreats. Use of Crookham Village Hall to provide social events for the inhabitants of Crookham and surrounding areas. These include village evenings, evening meals, coffee mornings and lunches, and use of the Hall as a venue for society meetings, including an Art Club, Book Club, Gardeners' Club, Knit & Natter, and local history and archaeology (TillVAS). The hall is available for private hire.

The PTA's activities include fundraising through organising events such as Christmas fair, Christmas card production, Summer fair, coffee mornings, quiz night, bingo & a May ball. Funds raised are spent on financing new equipment for the school such as books, play equipment for indoor & outdoor play & providing extra curricular events such as contributing to a children's disco & 'film night'.
