Arts Charities That specialise in Literature

The society exists to promote the study of any aspect of the history of Lancashire and Cheshire. This is done through a series of public lectures and meetings, a grant scheme for research, schools and publications and the publication of an annual volume of transactions. The society's library is on open access to all who want to use it.

Promotion of the Metamorphic Technique to the general public through seminars, workshops and literature. To promote awareness, understanding and use of the Metamorphic technique in the UK and internationally and to uphold standards in practising and teaching the Technique.

to disseminate knowledge of the teaching and philosophy of Saint John Henry Newman.to assist in collecting evidence of devotion to Newman for the furtherance of his cause as Doctor of the Church and to raise funds for popular publications, talks and audio-visual aids.

The Friends of Puddletown Library provide a centre for people to meet informally and library services for the people of the surrounding villages. Young children accompanied by their parents are provided with story telling and in introduction to reading by trained volunteers. Jigsaw puzzles and magazines as well as a coffee machine are provided for the more mature.

Fundraising to provide schools in the Gambia, Africa with funds to assist with maintaining the premises and providing students with books, school fees, uniforms, lunch ect.

We set up study groups through which we provide literacy training to pupils struggling to read and write in Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone. We also make available culturally appropriate reading materials for the pupils in these countries. We also provide training to teachers on bespoke methods of teaching reading and writing skills.

The Trust provides grants and bursaries during the year to individuals involved in the field of ceramics, to assist them with preparing books, conference papers and other projects relevant to the education of the public in craft pottery.

To advance the education of adults in the Bristol area, in literacy. We work on a 1:1 basis, with the Coach/Reader pair meeting twice each week. All Coaches are volunteers and are trained in the phonics method. All reading materials are provided for the Reader, at no cost to him/her. There is no time limit within which the Reader has to achieve a certain standard of literacy.

Sussex Coast Talking News (SCTN) provides blind and visually impaired listeners resident along the West Sussex coast with free fortnightly local news and a magazine recorded and dispatched on CD or USB sticks. We are run entirely by volunteers and operate from a studio in Rustington, West Sussex.

The charity runs the community library from the Old School building in Niton. All people involved in the charity are volunteers from the local area.

The aim of the Charity is to restore a forgotten cemetery in Epsom Surrey in which up to 9000 people were buried between 1899 and 1955. The charity will also undertake research into and education about the lives of those buried there - seek to trace relatives and descendants and promote a Book of Remembrance containing all the names.

Purpose: maintain Collection at Ashridge with information/catalogue for public benefit, open in August for guided tours by appointment. Autumn 2010 Objectives: increase public awareness by detailed website; and circulation of list/photos by Courtauld Photographic Survey to subscribers, 40 British and International art museums/libraries, also available to researchers at CPS and Witt Library.

Charity originally set up to help with costs of "apprenticing of children of the village" (Harborough Magna)"Previously have made one off grants to help individuals within the village/parish with the costs of books/equipment for children/students or those on an apprenticeship. Have also assisted the local village "Early Birds" pre -school nursery with certain projects such as leavers books.

The Young ME Sufferers Trust is the longest established ME service for children, young people, families, professionals. In 2010 we received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service: the MBE for volunteer groups. Advice Line, magazine and Tymes Trustcard for school or college; free publications at www.tymestrust.org. Executive Director, former headteacher Jane Colby, is renowned for her ME work.

We record, onto CDs or memory sticks, audio versions of our local newspaper The Gazette and other local interest recordings and distribute them in the surrounding district to blind or partially sighted listeners and those whose incapacity makes reading a strain. We also produce quarterly magazine recordings and are starting to produce local audio history recordings too. Run by volunteers
