Educational benefits

During the pandemic and the ensuing months our activities were necessarily limited. We did make up mouth care packs consisting of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and information about head and neck cancer. These were distributed to food banks in local areas. Thanks to helpers in Stockton and Darlington.We are now beginning the process of strengthening the charity with some new trustees and supporters

Village Hall used by Dalton on Tees village groups and outside organisations in the area of Darlington and north Yorkshire

Repairs to the fabric of St Mary's Church, Riccall, North Yorkshire.

Currently working on cataloguing the collections of some 8000 objects and paper ephemera providing a tangible social history of Malton, Norton and the local area for the education of the general public. In 2022 we expanded our shop window Heritage Trail around the shops and buildings in the two towns in order to further inform the general public about the history of the area.

To provide resources and support for musicians aged 8 to 19 attending the Harrogate Music Centre, through raising funds to support events, purchase music, fund the loan of musical instruments and give any other support as necessary.

The charity works with members, volunteers and partners to protect and enhance the natural Space that is Hell Wath. Activities include hedgerow maintenance and planting, invasive species removal, habitat maintenance and development (such as ponds, scrub and grasslands), monitoring of butterflies, trees, bats and wildflowers, wildflower cultivation and planting as well as maintenance tasks .

OUR ACTIVITIES COMPRISE EDUCATION AND RESEARCH IN GEOLOGY IN EAST YORKSHIRE AND SURROUNDING AREAS, VIA LECTURES, FIELD TRIPS, OPEN DAYS, PUBLICATIONS AND WEBSITE, IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOCAL COUNCILS, MUSEUMS, EDUCATIONAL AND CONSERVATIONAL INSTITUTIONS. ALL AVAILABLE AND PROMOTED TO PUBLIC.

Burtersett Village Institute is a building in the centre of Burtersett next to the village green. The building can be hired for people to use as they wish, e.g. art displays, whist drives, childrens parties, etc. A village show is held annually to raise funds for the upkeep of the building. The building helps bring the community together as it is the only non-dwelling in the village.
