Generally Cestria U3A exists to advance education and in particular the education of people not in full time gainful employment who are in their Third Age residing in Chester-le-Street and its surrounding locality. Cestria U3A is part of the Third Age Trust.

Aspyre Africa provides vulnerable young people access to vocational training which reflects local labour market demands. Their current projects are in Senegal.
