The Objects of The Benfleet U3A are the advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those who are retired from full time work by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development, in Benfleet and its surrounding locality.

Educational and Social Group

We hold monthly meetings where speakers are invited to speak on a variety of subjects. Interest groups are run by members on subjects devised by members . Their membership gives people access to seminars and summer courses run by the Third Age Trust

Members can to take part in a wide range of education, recreational and leisure time activities through our many interest groups, which are detailed on our monthly newsletter. Members may learn a new subject from scratch, reacquaint themselves with a long-forgotten subject or practise and improve on a current interest in a relaxed atmosphere. A current project aims to teach older people IT skills.

The u3a exists for the education of older people, and those who no longer work full time. Hythe and Dibden u3a holds regular speaker meetings open to all members, and also offers a diverse range of interest groups available for members to join.

The group holds a monthly meetings open to everyone, where a speaker talks to the attendees on a topic of general interest.There are also a series of different activity groups or groups just meeting for coffee or a pub lunch. Members attend these as and when they wish.

1) to advance the education of the public and in particular the education of middle-aged and older people who are not in full time gainful employment in Launceston and its surrounding locality.2) the provision of facilities for leisure time and recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the above persons in the interests of their social welfare.

A wide range of activities, study and entertainment for members (specifically for the over 50s). Subjects include Art, Photography, and Crafts of all Types; Classical Music and Book Appreciation; Science and Geneaology; Outdoor pursuits such as Rambling and Birdwatching; Indoor and Outdoor Sports: plus outings and holidays. We recognise the social aspect of learning for mental acuity and health.

The U3A is a self-help, self-managed charitable organisation for those no longer in full-time work. It provides opportunities for members to share experiences in a range of Interest Groups to pursue skills, knowledge and activities. We hold monthly meetings with speakers, and have over 30 interest groups including bird watching, walking, family history, bridge, reading, geology, languages etc
