The Ford to Hunston Canal Society seeks to promote for the benefit of the public the improvement and maintenance of the heritage of the Ford to Hunston section of the Portsmouth & Arundel Canal, in the Chichester and Arun Districts of West Sussex, as well as advancing the education of the public in these areas on history and architecture of the Canal.

The objects of the Charity are to encourage high standards of architecture and town planning in the Holme Valley Parish Council area, to stimulate the interest of the public in the beauty, history, natural history, character and architecture of the area, and to influence the development and improvement of features of historic interest or public amenity in the area.

Organise a programme of lectures on Cornish topics. Maintain a collection of documents, images and artefacts and exhibit these when possible. Respond to queries regarding the history of the town of Newquay and its environs. Maintain a photographic record of changes to the town. Participate in the activities of the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies. Organise social events for members.

Barkway Reading Room is a meeting place for Village organisations as required. The Reading Room now also operates as a small museum with displays about the history of Barkway. All residents in Barkway can use the Reading Room by arrangement with the Parish Clerk

The objectives of the society are:- 1. To compile lists of the flora and fauna of the district, 2. To study the natural history, culture and history of the district, 3. To make a photographic record of the district, 4. To promote the conservation of the flora and fauna of the district. The society arranges lectures and field meetings, and publishes a monthly bulletin of its findings.

Historical talks and walks around Dorset

To promote the understanding of natural history and archaeology by field work, education, research and lectures.

To advance public education of the D-Day landings by Allied Forces in 1944 and the subsequent campaign to liberate Normandy, through the promotion of and contribution to the D-Day Memorial Garden and the Normandy Battle Museum in Caen, thereby also commemorating the landings, as well as the historical importance and sacrifices made.

Provision of village history centre at Steeple Aston Village Hall, with public access to the archive and other facilities. Public lecture each spring. Public exhibition each autumn. Additional publications of CDs, DVDs, annual booklets, with 13 items now available from the website shop. Family history research and local house histories undertaken. Research and dissemination of information relating to mainly local history and archaeology. Main activity is presenting regular lectures on these topics in Cirencester.

Holds meetings. Co-operates with local authorities , planning committees, and all other statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and charities. Holds fund raising events. Helps to promote civic pride in the local area and to generate public interest in and care for its beauty, history and character.

Produces annually a set of learned articles known as 'The Transactions Of The Unitarian Historical Society'. The transactions are widely distributed to historians, libraries and universities. The society meets every year for its annual general meeting and lecture. Members pay a subscription and attend the AGM. They receive a copy of the transactions in return for their subscriptions.
