To promote the advancement of public education through the study of local history in Biggleswade by holding monthly meetings and producing newsletters and publications.

Our objectives and aims are to stimulate a sense of civic pride, to promote high standards of planning and architecture and to secure the preservation, protection and improvement of features of historical or public interest.

In 2025 the trustees hosted activities towards fulfilling the objectives of the trust; these included a concert of music by Arthur Sullivan, the AGM and talk about the history of St Hubert's Church, a Midsummer Sun event and the popular annual Musical Picnic.Recent financial support has been given towards the restoration programme, resulting in repairs to the porch and a new drainage system.

Friends of Roman Aldborough (FORA) provide a series of lectures open to members and the public on Roman history and related topics and site visits linked to the talks. Members offer weekly guided tours of Roman Aldborough Town site, talks to local group meetings, work with Cambridge University on their digs in Aldborough and assist English Heritage who manage the Aldborough site.

Between October and March a fortnightly series of illustrated lectures is arranged Field meetings are held regularly in the Summer. Group recorders for the various orders collate and verify records. Annual reports are issued. The society manages a location for the benefit of wildlife

To preserve St Madoc of Ferns Church, Haroldston West, a site of local and historic interest, for public access and the benefit of the Havens community. Educate and inform the Havens community and visitors of the history of St Madoc, the church and the area. Promote visits to, and the use of the building, for historical education, recitals, art, or other related purposes.

NBVH provides a social focus for the community.It provides facilities for local groups e.g book club, art, history group, sewing group, parish council, parochial council meetings. It provides a venue for social events for the community quiz nights, table tennis, cinema evenings and is also available at extremely reasonably rates for private hire e.g. children's parties, large family occasions.

The Society runs an annual program of 12 talks, open to members and visitors, on topics that are relevant to the history and culture of Hebden Bridge and the surrounding area.
