Our charity holds meetings at its rooms for the reading of original papers, discussions and lectures, it holds an annual exhibition, field meetings and workshops. It publishes a journal and entomological text books. It makes available a library and collections of entomological specimens. These activities have the object of promoting, advancing and diffusing research in biological science.

The Society is the designated Neighbourhood Forum for the Dore Area, with responsibility for preparing a Neighbourhood Plan for Dore. The society serves those interested in the history and technique of British Theatre by arranging public lectures, by publishing books and a thrice-yearly journal ('Theatre Notebook') and by awarding research grants to individuals and institutions. It awards an annual theatre book prize and stages the Poel Event, an annual workshop promoting good stage speech, most recently at the National Theatre.

The Society holds regular lecture meetings, residential seminars, and organises a summer visit to reserve &/or private collections not normally open to the public.
