The principal activity of the company is the running of the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford. This involves the mounting of in-house productions by the company, and performances toured into the theatre by outside production companies. The company also tours its own in-house productions to other theatres throughout the country.

The Watermill seeks to spread knowledge and understanding about the arts and in particular the art of theatre through the production of plays and related activities encompassing touring, education, youth and community work, new writing and the nurturing of talented individuals.
