Durham Division is part of Girl Guiding, which enables girls and young women to develop their potential and to make a difference in the world. Our Rainbow, Brownie, Guides and Senior Section meetings provide a wide range of learning and development opportunities including outdoor challenges, learning new skills, teamwork, international travel and working on community projects.

Provide a common hub for the local community. Maintain and improve the village hall for the benefit of all of the parishioners of Hunstanworth. Facilitate local activities and life long education in the community. Encourage links with other organisations which provide similar facilities and services. Promote dissemination of information through the production and distribution of the Parish Post.

To maintain the redundant church of St Mary-Le-Bow, Durham City, as a centre for exhibitions and activities related to the history and antiquities of the city and county, and for other educational and cultural benefits.

The Society, which was formed in 1968, takes an active part in preserving our heritage. We promote various projects in local history and offer advice. We maintain links with local archives, libraries, museums and groups connected with archaeology, family history and industrial archaeology. Lectures and guided walks are held throughout the year.

During the pandemic and the ensuing months our activities were necessarily limited. We did make up mouth care packs consisting of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and information about head and neck cancer. These were distributed to food banks in local areas. Thanks to helpers in Stockton and Darlington.We are now beginning the process of strengthening the charity with some new trustees and supporters

Makes grants to individuals for the relief of poverty

To provide relief for persons who have, or are recovering from a disability, mental illness, emotionel problems, anxiety, depression or related symptoms by the provision of a befriending service and facilities for recreation with the object of improving their conditions of life.

Monthly outings, Line dancing and aerobics intergenerational activities weekly meetings to help to overcome loneliness, listening to speakers on home safety etc .monthly singers Bingo, dominoes Bowling,Luncheon Club

The advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those who are retired from full time work by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development.

THE FUNCTION OF THE FRIENDS GROUP IS TO MAINTAIN, PRESERVE AND CONSERVE THE ORCHARD; BORDER AND PARTERRE PLANTING; AND LAWNED AREAS OF THESE 17TH CENTURY, AUTHENTICALLY PLANTED, RESTORED GARDENS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC IN GENERAL. WE OPEN THE GARDENS TWICE A WEEK AND ARE INTENDING TO INCREASE THIS. WE INVOLVE THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITY, COLLEGES AND BUSINESSES IN OUR WORK.

The aim is to engage with the local community through positive social action to raise aspirations; build confidence & self esteem; improve access to opportunity; help make positive lifestyle choices; tackle the debilitating effects of poverty & deprivation & assist in education & training. These help improve quality of life & ultimately empower our beneficiaries to change expected destinies.
