The AfTA exists to advance research and education in the study and practice of African theatre and performance by 1). providing a regular forum for scholars and practitioners to exchange ideas, knowledge and information; 2). publishing and disseminating research and information on African theatre and performance 3). providing information on African theatre and performance to the wider public.

We engage in training and mentoring of palliative care personnel (doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, etc) working in hospital and home-care based pc services in countries defined as 'resource-limited' - mainly in Africa and Asia. Our activities are normally funded by larger charitable organisations, such as Tearfund, Afrox, Rotary International.

The Trust works through trusted partners in Ethiopia to restore and conserve lands of natural beauty and historic buildings in Ethiopia. For some years support focused on the development and guardianship of the 13 sq km Entoto Natural Park on the outskirts of Addis Ababa where over 600,000 indigenoous trees have been planted. Today the Trust focuses on projects outside the capital city.
