We work with locally based projects that are initiated and controlled by women and communities facing severe economic and social conditions. We are committed to enhancing students understanding of the institutional and political in-working of the United Nations (UN) organisation. Through attending simulated UN conferences, students act as ambassadors, representatives, and national leaders of their assigned countries whilst debating a variety of issues in a manner consistent with the procedure of the real UN.

The society was founded in 1982 to promote friendship between the UK and the republics of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Belize. It organises lectures, social events, and fundraising events in collaboration with the embassies and sometimes with other charities. It also has a programme of small donations for charitable projects in the region.
