The trust was originally known as the Barnes Trust. It is solely for the benefit of elderly and other vulnerable people within the Malmesbury area and gives grants to individuals and organisations. The charity also provides educational support to people living or studying in the Malmesbury area.The Malmesbury area is determined by the area covered by the Malmesbury Area Board.

The main object of EWMI is to provide an amenity for the residents of Esholt to pursue leisure and community activities. These include; indoor and outdoor bowling,Council forums,barbecues and Christmas parties, supporting the village entry in "Yorkshire in Bloom".

The Ganda Foundation aims to empower sustainable community development in Uganda.
