Education Charities That specialise in University of the third age

We provide for the advancement of education for older people and those retired from full time work, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development. To do this we provide a base which enables members to share educational, creative and leisure activities by forming interest groups run and taught by themselves with no distinction between teachers and learners.

The charity exists to promote the advancement of education amongst middle-aged and older people in the Eastbourne area.

Socio/educational organisation for older people

The charitable purposes of The U3A are to advance education and in particular the education of people not in full time gainful employment who are in their Third Age (being the period of time after the first age of childhood dependence and the second age of full time employment and/or parental responsibility) residing in Higham Ferrers, Rushden and its surrounding locality.

Education and social contact of people who have retired from full time working through lectures , talks and activity groups

GENERAL MEETINGS OF OLDER PEOPLE WITH SPEAKER,ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: ART APPRECIATION, BIRD WATCHING, WALKING, THEATRE VISITS, LOCAL HISTORY ETC.,

To advance the education of older people no longer in gainful employmnent and to provide facilities for activities that improve the mental, physical and social welfare for these people

We hold monthy meetings with speakers and have different group activities to further the education and interests of our members who are retired or semi-retired. We also have outings to local places of interest to further our local knowledge.

Educational Activities

Our activities aim to advance the education of our members and the public, particularly older people no longer in full time gainful employment in Sleaford and the surrounding area through the work of a large number of semi-autonomous interest groups. In addition we provide facilities for recreation and leisure activities to enhance the lives of our members and their social welfare.

Educational and Leisure activities for older people.These include Reading groups, Music, Gardening, Walking, Bridge, Canasta, Theatre, Local/Social History, Crafts, Current Affairs, Geology, Bowls, Art Appreciation, French, Modern Philosophy, Talks on various subjects, and Social gatherings.

The objects of the U3A are: The advancement of education and, in particular, the education of older people and those who are retired from full time work by all means, including associated activities conducive to learning and personal development in South Cave and North Cave and surrounding locality

It offers the opportunity for peer-to-peer learning in a social environment to a section of the communityotherwise not widely provided for.

Discussion Groups covering finance & investment,local history,Art appreciation, Family History,French Conversation,Light Music and Light Classical Music,Computer Skills,Current Affairs,meetings with lectures of general interest often illustrated. Members are encouraged to start other groups of interest to them subject to the interest being shown by fellow members.

Arden (Solihull) u3a meets every Monday with a visiting/member speaker. Currently, there are 7 Activity Groups meeting monthly, covering a wide range of interests: Current Affairs, Geography & History, Go and Do, Play Reading, Rambling, Reading for Pleasure, Science Today.

On July 11 2014 we opened as a museum we made BBC Central News on several occasions. Our last appearance was Inside Out February 2019.We work with local schools, scouts, U3A etc. Within the museum we have photographs, artefacts showing past mining equipment and the social history of a mining village.We have done outreach at Bestwood, Mansfield, Pleasley, Langwith, Rufford and Newark.

As in Section 5 of the original document PLUS:Newark & District U3A currently operates 40 groups within its organisation, all of which are autonomous but are managed according to the Aims & Principles of the Third Age Trust in that they are self financing and maintain a break-even policy of financial management

Harpenden u3a was established in 1982 and was the first of the many hundred of u3a's now established in the UK. It was formed so that retired or OAP's can continue their education. This is mainly achieved by attending lectures locally or elsewhere e.g. The Royal Institution or trips to museums and other places of culture or education.
