Heritage Charities That specialise in Archaeology

Pevensey Church Farm Trust owns Church Farm field, Pevensey, which is adjacent to the churchyard of St Nicolas Pevensey. The Trust was created to provide an extension of the graveyard in part of its field, which requires approval from the county archaeologist and church authorities, and the raising of funds for an archaeological survey. The field is currently let to a tenant for grazing of animals

Ipswich Archaeological Trust was founded in October 1982 to inform the people of Ipswich of their archaeological past, involve them in the archaeological work taking place in the town and publicise that work. It also performs an advocacy role for archaeology and heritage services in Ipswich and Suffolk.

The charity promotes and encourages the study of archaeology and local history in South West Hertfordshire through a programme of lectures and events, such as excavations, visits to locations of archaeological and historical interest, and the production of a regular newsletter.

Monthy meetings held, incorporating illustrated talks with speakers on archaeology, travel in the UK and abroad, together with local places of interest.

The Charity provides education and training relating to the archaeology and history of the Yorkshire Dales landscape. It supports community research projects and aims to improve public knowledge and understanding of the heritage of the area.

For the benefit of the residents of the civil parish of Boxford, West Berkshire and its adjoining parishes, the charity researches and provides information about local heritage, including archaeological excavations, exhibitions, talks and guided walks; as well as free admission to heritage assets, artefacts, photographs and records. The involvement of local schools and colleges is welcome.

To advance the education of the public in the study and practice of archaeology. This is achieved through promoting and at times providing opportunitites to participate in fieldwork, producing newsletters, attending and organising events and participating in regional fora and networks.

Archaeological Research

The primary objectives of IAMS are the study of and research into the history and development of metallurgical processes in any part of the world. These objectives can be met by promoting and supporting international cooperation, by engaging in joint research, by setting up exhibitions, by undertaking archaeological expeditions, by teaching, lecturing and publishing relevant information.

Provision of monthly lectures, annual coach trip and quarterly newsletters on archaeological and local history topics (lectures and coach trip open to the public).Provision, if required, of advice, support and/or assistance to other archaeological and local societies.Some processing past archaeological digs and completing reports.Representation on SLAEC and on Lambeth Local History Forum.

Developing young peoples' respect for their surroundings through understanding their past.Research, promotion, education and presentation of the past to a wider public audience.Producing and supporting publications relating to history/archaeology nationwide.Preserving the future of archaeological sites and collections for future generations.Developing community involvement in archaeology.

Encourages and promotes archaeology by individuals and organisations by the provision of data and specialist reports on monuments and artefacts from the region. Supports and organises public lectures, day schools and conferences.Indentifies and records archaeological sites and finds made by individuals and organisations for publication and historical environment records.

In furtherance of its aims to encourage involvement in regional heritage and archaeology, CBA South West produces two newsletters/journals and holds two or three open meetings each year.

Raising funds for the excavation and preservation of archaeological sites in and around the oases of the Western Desert, for educational purposes and for the relief of hardship in this area.

SLAEC seeks to advance the knowledge of the history of the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark by archaeological investigation. It provides grants in support of this aim for archaeological fieldwork, research, publication and exhibitions and for opportunities for the public, including families and children, to take part in archaeological activities.

At the request of Kim Chester, Development Manager, Waterways Trust, Mrs Hopkinson recorded the history of the Brindley Canal & brine spring excavations at Droitwich for educational purposes, at schools & the Worcester Record Office to maintain interest in the history of the salt industry. DBSAT has been made a partner in this development together with Wychavon District Council and local bodies.
