BBYT exists to serve the local community by providing a relevant Christian witness to the children and young people living in the villages of Butcombe and Blagdon and other surrounding villages. This will be achieved through the provision of specialist youth workers and by encouraging Churches and individuals to be involved in this ecumenical ministry.

The Charity provides financial support from income received from funds held to benefit the Avon Battalion Boys' Brigade Annual Camp under the terms of the trust deed dated 22 June 1934.

Charitable activities

Help needy in village

To provide some financial support for the poor or elderly of the parish as near to Christmas Day as possible. The award is made to a long term resident of the parish who may be in poor health or have provided service to the parish.

Musical concerts and education

A Bursary fund for children attending a Somerset Outdoor and Residential Learning Service (SORLS) holiday and enrichment Courses. APPLICATION FORMS FOR A GRANT MAY BE OBTAINED FROM KILVE COURT OFFICE (01278 741270). GRANTS MAY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS DEPENDING ON INDIVIDUAL FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES FOR KILVE COURT COURSES ONLY.

assists pensioners within the village

Grants to support Ministers in training, financial support of ministers in need, other financial support to those within the Baptist denominational family.

The care of all who give their time as vergers and other volunteers within the Church of England.

Renting of village hall for community use

Prize fund

Provision of a playing field for sport and recreation for the parishioners of Chew Magna. This includes a junior football field, basket ball court, and childrens' playground.

Ownership of listed theatre building

The relief of any financially needy clergy and their families (or former) licensed or with PTO (permission to officiate) from the Bishop of Bath and Wells within the Church of England ,Archdeaconry of Bath, Diocese of Bath and Wells.Also any financially needy widows, widowers or partners, along with their children, of deceased clergy, who before they died were last licensed in the Area Deaneries

Upkeep of church fabric

Slow Shopping's aims are to relieve people in the UK & overseas who live with mental &/or physical disabilities by the provision of training and other support services to enable them to shop, visit or attend a variety of settings in order to enhance their experience by maintaining and developing their independence, confidence and dignity. It also collaborates in research in this field.
