Activities of the CIO aim to benefit the residents of Solon New Road and the wider community through advancing education and providing facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time activities with the objective of improving the well being of the residents. We work with the play specialists in the Evelina Children's Hospital, London, and hospitals in Kent to help preserve children's emotional well being during their hospital stay. We provide anything related to play to be given to children during their stay in hospital to help with distraction from the environment and the procedures they have to undergo. We also provide stickers and certificates.

The activities of the charity are to ensure the continued operation of the Carnegie Library and all its associated clubs and activities within the library building, in particular to obtain an asset transfer of the library building from Lambeth Borough Council.

The South London Resource Centre for Visually Impaired People works in collaboration with the Eye Department at St Thomas' Hospital, London, to provide the optometric Low Vision service for Guys and St Thomas' NHS Trust.
