General charitable activities

To provide services to relieve the suffering of persons under the age of 10 years and over the age of 60 years in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

The Trust supports causes both in the UK and abroad, specifically, but not limited to Dorset, where the founding family are based. The trustees wish the Trust to support disadvantaged children and young people and those individuals undergoing cancer treatment, encourage animal welfare, and promote community and social inclusion. The Trust does not accept unsolicited proposals.

THE SOCIETY PROMOTES THE SCHOLARLY STUDY OF ALL ASPECTS OF THE HISTORY OF THE CHEMICAL SCIENCES (INCLUDING ALCHEMY). IT HOLDS MEETINGS FOR THE READING AND DISCUSSION OF SCHOLARLY PAPERS, PROVIDES SMALL RESEARCH GRANTS, IN PARTICULAR TO POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS AND POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS, AND PUBLISHES ARTICLES AND ESSAYS, ESPECIALLY IN AMBIX, THE JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY

We partner with education providers in the third world to provide vocational courses for underprivileged young people, in particular orphans.

We provide training, advice and guidance to women and men so that they can be able to access income generating opportuniies and improve the quality of their lives. We also help children to achieve their education potential by providing them with supplementary education support.

The British Council Benevolent Fund's charitable purpose is the alleviation of financial hardship for British Council employees, both past and present, and their families, globally. The overriding criterion for assistance being immediate need and financial difficulty for example as a result of illness, bereavement, natural disaster such as earthquakes/floods or in areas of conflict.

The organisation advances the protection and restoration of the natural environment through grassroots community conservation and wildlife ranger support, with a focus on areas of high conservation value and/or endangered flora and fauna.
