The objects of the charity are to stimulate civic pride in the beauty, history and character of Scarborough and its surroundings and to take an active interest in maintaining those features on which the character of the town depends. Hull Civic Society monitors and comments on planning applications and aims to encourage high standards of design in new buildings and the conservation of historic buildings and those which contribute positively to the city's townscape. It holds public meetings October to April, summer guided walks and visits, provides a3 Newsletters a year and Update planning reports for members on email.

To encourage high standards of architecture and planning in Margate and environs, by holding regular meetings and talks, commenting on planning applications and taking a full part in local consultations and activities.
