The trust was established with the proceeds of the sale of the Aria College, Southsea, Portsmouth, for the purposes of providing scholarships or bursaries to young men, not exceeding the age of 35 years, being natives of Great Britain for training as jewish ministers on orthodox judaical principles at such college or institution as the trustees may determine.

The principle aim of Wigan Sea Cadets is to engage young people 10-18 through a nautical theme, based on traditions and values of the Royal Navy in extra curricular education and training. The Trust makes small grants to individuals in the Anglican Diocese of Liverpool who are attending second chance learning through Further Education establishments, including ESOL programmes. Grants are for the books or equipment the individual needs for their educational courses or training programmes.
