The object of the CIO is, for the public benefit, to promote the education of children and young people aged up to and including 18 years in such ways as the charity trustees think fit, including by the provision of bursaries to enable children to attend independent schools and further and higher education and the provision of tutoring.

It organises and supports conferences concerning musicological matters and recognises the achievement of excellence in musical scholarship by the annual award of the Dent Medal, the Tippett Medal, the Jerome Roche Prize, and the Peter Le Huray Lecture.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS TRUST IS TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE FEES PAYABLE TO THE SCHOOL BY PUPILS WHO WOULD BE UNABLE TO CONTINUE EDUCATION AT THE SCHOOL WITHOUT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE OR WHO WOULD BE UNABLE TO COMMENCE EDUCATION AT THE SCHOOL DESPITE BEING ACCEPTED.
