To advance the education of the public by the promotion and support of the charitable activities of Beamish the North of England Open Air Museum. In furtherance of these objects the Friends undertake restoration work, and generally encourage interest in the history of the region and the work of the Museum. From functional skills maths and English, furniture restoration to art sessions and one to one support we help develop people's confidence, skills and achievements with support and guidance at every step of the way.

Conservation and development for public benefit of the Victorian southern outfall of the London sewer system. The main buildings, the Boiler House, Triple Expansion Engine House and the Beam Engine House are Grade I listed. The Beam Engine House contains fine examples of Victorian decorative wrought ironwork and four rotative beam steam engines, built originally by the James Watt Company.
