Walton Womens Institute provides opportunities locally for women in the fields of education, sport, recreation and crafts. It provides opportunity for friendship, competition, theatre, outings and work to benefit the community.

We provide many events on a local and county basis eg. craft music art ect..We meet monthy providing fun and friendship and surport for all our members.

Monthly meetings ,where opportunity is given to educate members to provide an effective role in community.Opportunities to participate in social, musical, craft, home economics, walking, theatre events. have also taken place.

WE HOLD SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR INCLUDING SEASONAL SUPPERS, CONCERTS AND ANNUAL QUIZES, AND ALSO RENT THE HALL FOR WI MEETINGS, YFC, GARDENING CLUB, A BAND PRACTICE AND PRIVATE FUNCTIONS.

Village Hall - providing facilities for local interest & community groups , Over 60s, Youth Club, Parish Council, Churches, Coffee morning, Post Office outreach service, craft groups, WI, Parties & functions.

WOMEN OF WOOLTON'S WOMEN'S INSTITUTE IS A LOCAL BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S INSTITUTES. THE AIM IS TO PROMOTE THE EDUCATION OF WOMEN, PROVIDE SOCIAL AND CRAFT ACTIVITIES AND GET INVOLVED IN LOCAL EVENTS. THE MEETINGS TAKE PLACE MONTHLY, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AUGUST, AND USUALLY COMMENCE WITH A SPEAKER CHOSEN FROM A WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECT MATTER.

SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

the main purposes of the WI organisation are: a)to advance the education of women and girls for the public benefit in all areas. b) to promote sustainable development for the public benefit, c)to promote health for the public benefit and d)to advance citizenship for the public benefit by the promotion of civic responsibility and volunteering.

We provide a community hub for self-help groups like the AA, and other organisations such as the WI, PC and PCC. We are the local polling station, and have regular hirers: a dog training school, a model railways group, circuit training, band rehearsals, and special events like weddings, birthdays and parties. We charge £6 an hour for locals & regular hirers, and negotiate rates for others.

Melbury Osmond Village Hall provides a venue for the community of Melbury Osmond and beyond for a variety of activities. These include village events such as the Summer Fete and Flower Show, the Arts including theatre and stage productions for all ages and groups, regular meetings including WI, keep fit groups, Garden & Show Society, Tennis Club, Church Social events & Parish Meetings etc.

Our W.I. continues to offer all women an opportunity to learn new skills and enjoy fun and friendship and to provide an active role in the community.

Undertake activities to enable women interested in issues associated with rural life to improve their education in citizenship, public questions, music, culture, handicrafts, home economics, health and social welfare and to improve rural life.
