North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre provides a community-based service to help families whose lives are affected by illness or disability. Music Therapy involves active music making as a means of improving physical, psychological and emotional functioning. The charity also provides information, further education, presentations/workshops and a programme of cultural events.

The activities encompass those normally associated with those of a church in the Church of England. In addition, St Oswald's derives income from its Parochial Hall, through a parish magazine - Sowerby Now - in association with the Methodist Church and through a luncheon club for the elderly.

We are an OFSTED registered pre-school providing places for children aged 2 1/2 to 4. We provide an excellent play-based educational programme through which all individual children will enjoy and achieve their full potential. Through constant observations and assessments we are able to plan to support every child's individual needs and follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

In summary the purposes of YEC are: (a) to advance the Christian faith, primarily but not exclusively within York and the surrounding neighbourhood; (b) to put our faith into practice, for example by the prevention and relief of need or hardship, by the advancement of education, and by the provision of community facilities.

The charity is responsible for the Low Bentham Victoria Institute building, ensuring that it continues to be a great local asset for the benefit of the population of Low Bentham and the surrounding area.
