The charity's principal purpose is the preservation and promotion of Berwick Barracks as a centre celebrating the history and heritage of Berwick-upon-Tweed and its surrounding area and as a focus for artistic and cultural activities. The main current focus of the charity is on promoting and funding plans for the Barracks' (re)development to this end.

Music Matters North East aims to raise funds and in-kind donations for the promotion of arts, particularly the arts of music, poetry, drama and dance for the public benefit in North East England.
