Founded by a legacy in 1585, this charity awards bursaries to students and apprentices whose parents live in Woodstock, Oxfordshire.

The Charity's object is the advancement of education 1) in support of projects of enduring educational benefit to Stowe School, 2) in the purchase and display of items of relevance to the historic and cultural heritage of Stowe and 3) in the provision of bursaries for pupils at the School or seeking to enter the School.

The charity awards about 30 to 35 scholarships a year to suitable girls and boys in HMC schools for appropriate gap year projects for their time between school and university. The awards are made to candidates of suitable character and promise who have some financial need, and who plan to complete a project that will benefit the community or communities in the country or countries visited.
