The main buildings, the Boiler House, Triple Expansion Engine House and the Beam Engine House are Grade I listed. The Beam Engine House contains fine examples of Victorian decorative wrought ironwork and four rotative beam steam engines, built originally by the James Watt Company.

The Society seeks to promote interest in, and raise awareness of the archaeology, ethnography and heritage of Sudan and Egyptian Nubia. It organises a series of lectures and colloquia, publishes an annual journal, "Sudan and Nubia", together with scholarly monographs. The Society raises funds, some of which are disbursed as grants for archaeological survey and excavation projects.

The acquisition and restoration of vintage fairground equipment for posterity. The Trust also aims to promote the study of the fairground in its every aspect, including its institutions, social history, history of British Showmen, the development of fairground amusements, mechanical rides, transport and popular entertainments and the various art forms related to the public.
