Housing Charities That specialise in Almshouse

Backham Almshouses are for a man, a woman or a married couple, who have lived in the Borough of King's Lynn, for a total of twenty one years. Must be of pensionable age.

The Charity provides accommodation for women only (and their children).

Provision of housing for widows or spinsters in the Warminster area over the age of 60 who are in distress or need and are of limited means. Preference is given to those professing the Protestant faith.

One Fund provides grants for educational purposes to people under 25 years old and a second provides grants to people in financial hardship. These are restricted to inhabitants of the civil parish of Sedbergh. A third owns a building rented by Cumbria CC as a library,the income can be used to give grants for charitable purposes in Sedbergh and its neighbourhood. A fourth fund owns an almshouse.

Housing for women of the parish

To provide accommodation for almspeople being decendants of George and Jane Watkinson or persons who have resided for not less than three years in the ecclesiastical parishes of St Matthew Lightcliffe, St Matthew Northowram and St John Coley,

Provision of almshouse accommodation. Four village units are owned by the charity and three are currently occupied.

Provision of Almshouse accommodation (in Kidlington) for qualifying residents of the parishes of Kidlington and St Aldates, Oxford. Until recently, 6 residents could be accommodated in bedsit accommodation. The accommodation has now been converted to 3 larger units.There is no warden service, and residents need to be reasonably self-sufficient. The Almshouse is a listed building.

The Henry Rogers Almshouses provide comfortable, affordable accommodation for the elderley who have strong family links within the immediate locality.

Provides, in a rural location, accommodation for needy older people with connexions to Hawstead, or surrounding parishes in Suffolk

To maintain Godfrey House, Petersfield as six self-contained flats for elderly, needy people, primarily for members of the United Reformed Church in Petersfield or any church in the local area.

Provides affordable accommodation to local parishioners in need of financial assistance. Residents should be able to live independently.

Provision and maintenance of four almshouses within the parish of Bicknoller for poor men and women over the age of 55 who have resided in or within 10 miles of the parish of Bicknoller for not less than five years.

Provides subsidised accommodation for single people of modest income with local connections, normally individuals who have retired but sometimes responsible younger people in need on a temporary basis.
