Darlington Association on Disability was established in 1986 as a voluntary and charitable organisation led by disabled people. It exists to promote independence and choice, and supports disabled people and carers through the provision of services, support and information and by tackling issues locally and nationally. DAD promotes the social model of disability.

The charity is involved in activities to improve the rivers, streams, watercourses and water impoundments of the catchments of the river Tees and its tributaries. In particular, work has been undertaken to deliver advice and capital works on diffuse rural pollution and invasive species control at a number of locations. FUNDING IS PROVIDED FOR HARDSHIP GRANTS, SUPPORT GROUPS, HOLIDAYS AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES WHOSE CHILDREN ARE UNDERGOING TREATMENT FOR CANCER OR LEUKAEMIA AT THE UNIT; MEDICAL AND OTHER EQUIPMENT; MEDICAL; NURSING AND SOCIAL SUPPORT STAFF AND RESEARCH INTO CHILDHOOD CANCER AND LEUKAEMIA

Age UK York offers a range of services and support to older people in the City of York. Activities include: providing information and advice; respite care; domiciliary care; a befriending service; a home from hospital service; providing escorted transport; running day clubs and a 'Keep your Pet' service. Age UK York operates four charity shops in locations across the city and surrounding area.

Dementia Forward exists to provide specialist support, advice and information to anyone affected by dementia. Support is given from pre diagnosis to end of life through a range of services including home visits by our specialist dementia support team as well as running community wellbeing services. Our services have been designed to give North Yorkshire folk the right support at the right time.
