History and Archaeology

The Society aims to promote high standards of planning and architecture in or affecting Bexhill Old Town; to educate the public in the geography, history, natural history and architecture of the area; to secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area; to provide, maintain and support public amenities in the area.

The provision and maintenance of a library in Nether Stowey and a library service for the village and surrounding parishes. To promote for the residents and surrounding area a public library for recreation and/or other leisure occupation in the interest of social welfare. To advance the education of the public in the history and heritage of the area, and the local environment.

Provision and maintenance of buildings and grounds at Oaklands, Stade Street, Hythe for the purpose of local council offices, local history room, museum, art, culture,sport and recreation.

The preservation, maintenance and renovation of the Grade II* listed former Methodist Chapel and its site in Tolpuddle, Dorset and its historical, architectural and constructional heritage, for the benefit of the people of Tolpuddle and of the Nation.

Berkhamsted Castle Trust provides education about, promotes and maintains, Berkhamsted Castle, Hertfordshire. It fosters use and enjoyment of the Castle by the public, and undertakes historical research or archaeological investigation into the Castle and people or events of historical significance connected to it.

To preserve and improve the amenities of Kensington for the public benefit by stimulating interest in its history and records, promoting good architecture and planning in its future development and by protecting, preserving and improving its buildings, open spaces and other features of beauty or historic or public interest.

The Trust's primary purpose is to preserve, restore and sustain amenities of historical, architectural, and cultural heritage for the benefit of the inhabitants in the communities of Presteigne and Norton, and to provide facilities to improve social welfare, recreation and other leisure time occupations. This includes the adaption of the former church of St Andrew in Norton as a community.

The society provides lectures, excursions, visits, walks and study days, which are open to the public. SHARP is a long-term, multi-period, multi-disciplinary independent research project set up to investigate the entire range of human settlement and land use in a typical north-west Norfolk parish, from the earliest times to the present day.

Promoting research, scholarship and public interest in the history of philosophy.

The principal object of the Great Eastern Railway Society is to promote the advancement of public education and knowledge of the Great Eastern Railway, its predecessors, successors and associated railway companies by historical research and study.

In addition to a monthy meeting which includes a guest speaker, and monthly coffee mornings we organise around 30 different study/interest groups who meet once or twice a month to pursue their chosen subject. These include Languages, History, Literature, Arts, Crafts, Geneaology, Discussion, Play Reading, Poetry, Creative Writing, Bowls, Line Dancing, Digital Photography, Walking and many others.

To educate the public by promoting, fostering interest in, exploration, research and publication on the archaeology, art, history and natural history of Wiltshire for the public benefit and to make donations and grants in furtherance of these objects.

Our aim is to preserve the artefacts, documents, pictures and skills of the shipyard workers that contributed to shipbuilding in Sunderland from 1346 until 1988 when the last shipyard closed. We think this history of shipbuilding and the ships that were built in Sunderland is worth preserving for future generations so that they may know the maritime heritage that their city is built upon.

Research and dissemination of history of regionality in furniture design and construction.

Farnham Castle's primary activity is the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by the maintenance, repair or restoration of 12th century Farnham Castle, a nationally important historic site.

The SSHM sponsors conferences, grants bursaries that help students attend conferences, and publishes a journal, a newsletter, and a book series.
