The aim of the Institution is to promote, in the Bath and North East Somerset area, an interest in the arts and sciences, and to provide, through archives and collections, resources for education, research and enjoyment. This is aided by the provision of a variety of exhibitions and a diverse programme of lectures, discussions and meetings.

The charity provides local and national support, advice and information for people affected by myasthenic syndromes (Myasthenia Gravis; Ocular Myasthenia Gravis; Congenital Myasthenic Syndromes and Lambert Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome) and their families. It raises medical and public awareness of these conditions and funds research to reduce their impact and ultimately a find cure.

The principal activity of the company is currently to provide Christian Science nursing for patients in order to support those wishing to rely entirely on spiritual healing as taught in Christian Science. The Trust provides a visiting (domiciliary) Christian Science nursing service for those relying on the teachings of Christian Science.
