Hold fund-raising events, to raise funds for Local Charities. Assist with local community activities. Hold monthly meetings with interesting guest speakers for our members and to which any local women can attend.

Provides a meeting place for leisure activities in a rural community.

To enable women who are interested in issues associated with rural life, including arts, crafts and sciences, to improve and develop conditions of rural life, to advance their education in citizenship, in public questions both national and international, in music, drama and other cultural subjects and in all branches of, handicrafts, home economics, health and social welfare.

In 1993, 3 parish councillors set up The Trust. It bought land immediately next to the village hall. It is held in perpetuity as a quiet recreation area for the people of Buckhorn Weston of all ages. Later the district council sold the council houses. Some proceeds were used for one-off windfall grants. We built play, picnic and ballgame areas on this land (with additions, now about 1 1/2 acres).

A) To advance the education of young members of the public in agriculture, home crafts, country life and related subjects. And B) In the interest of social welfare to provide and promote the provision of facilities for recreation and leisure.

Undertake activities to enable women interested in issues associated with rural life, to improve their education in citizenship, public questions, music, culture, handicrafts, home economics, health and social welfare and to improve rural life.

Relieving hardship in the Parish by paying part of the electricity bill of poor parishioners

Provide, preserve, & protect public rights of way over footpaths and other ways, in particular those in the City & District of St Albans and adjoining areas. Preserve & enhance the beauty of the countryside for the benefit of the public.Advance the education of the general public in matters relating to the foregoing objectives.Write & publish leaflets and walks books.

To promote & enrich the quality of community life by provision of a facility to accommodate & enable access by diverse; services, social, cultural, educational needs of a rural community.Manage the Guildhall in a financially sustainable manner for current & future residents of Cound. Maintain and improve the fabric and grounds of the Guildhall in a environmentally efficient and sustainable manner.

The Civic Society aims to improve the appearance of the area by preserving what is good from the past and by encouraging high standards of design in new buildings. The Society checks and comments on all planning applications which concern listed buildings. It organises a programme of lectures and field trips, helps fund conservation projects and publishes a newsletter three times a year.

Education and development of young people through a variety of activities and competitions including public speaking, stock judging, cookery and sports. 10 clubs across the county organise their own weekly meeting. Emphasis on social, fundraising and travel opportunities too.
